Step Afrika!’s Home Performance Series (HPS) features two weeks of feature-length performances by the award-winning artists of Step Afrika! After a year of touring across the globe, Step Afrika! returns home to Washington, DC in order to present its biggest production of the year.


In an innovative collaboration between the visual and performing arts, Step Afrika! — Washington DC's highly celebrated dance company - partners with The Phillips Collection to give birth to a new artistic experience inspired by Jacob Lawrence's epic masterpiece The Migration Series.
The dynamic new performance series features two weeks of jazz, vocals, drums, dance, visual imagery, community outreach activities, and a special Saturday evening VIP performance and reception. The series runs at the Atlas Performing Arts Center June 15–26, 2011.
Past attendees include Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke; Ambassador Princeton Lyman; former DC City Administrator Neil Albert, Grammy-award winning Sweet Honey in the Rock and other civic and cultural dignitaries.
Step Afrika!'s commitment to bringing high-energy performances and youth programs to our region has earned the organization some of Washington, DC's highest honors, including the Mayor’s Arts Award for "Outstanding Contribution to Arts Education" and "Innovation in the Arts." Step Afrika! is also Washington, DC's first and only "Cultural Ambassador."
