NOUVEAU RICHE: BLOW OUT PARTY (Last event)

On March 28th, we celebrate 7 years of Nouveau Riche. It will also be our last monthly party at U Street Music Hall. A humongous THANK YOU to everyone who has ever come to one of our jams. You've changed our lives for the better. Hopefully we've returned the favor.

No, we're not "breaking up" - Nouveau Riche never dies - but for now we're turning our attention to our individual music making and party making efforts.

We want to thank Bill Spieler at DC9, who believed in us even when we were lucky to have 30 friends come out to see us DJ. And we want to thank Jesse Tittsworth, WIll Eastman, and the whole U Street Music Hall crew for seeing that we wanted to take it up a notch, and bringing us on board with the best nightclub in the entire world.

Now gently wipe away those tears and mark your calendars for the 28th and let's do this one more time. We're joined by special guest BIRD PETERSON and we intend to get casual.

1 DAY United for Marriage

This is a critical moment for marriage equality.

In two weeks, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on two historic cases related to marriage equality. Both cases are about whether same-sex couples should have the same freedoms as everyone else.

A strong and bipartisan majority of Americans believe the ability to marry the person you love is a Constitutional right. Join us in DC to demonstrate just how broad the support for marriage equality is.

HRC is working with a coalition of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender and allied groups, United for Marriage, and asking folks to attend a rally outside the Supreme Court on March 26th. Together we will show the nation that we believe that all Americans deserve to be treated fairly and equally under the law – no matter who they love.

WHEN: March 26th from 8:30a to 12p
WHERE: Supreme Court of the United States, 1 First Street, NE
RSVP: Click here to RSVP.

Together we can make history.

Salad War: Chop't Vs. SweetGreen

Salad War

vs.

OK you hipster salad eating health crazed nuts of DC!  Listen up.  Some of you rabbits love to say how good one or the other is!  Well I was one of you before I saw the light and tasted and tried out both stores.  Yes if you can't tell I love salads!

Let's start with the price and size of your salad you get!  Depending if you get more toppings you will pay more or if you just pick the regular salads they have listed you will pay a small fee.

Sweetgreen is charging 11-12$ per salad.  I usually get the Guacamole greens or kale Cesar.
Chop't is going on 8$ for my Cesar salad.

SweetGreen

Chop't

The size is incomparable.  Looks like Chop't wins that in size and price!

The style of the restaurants is about the same!  Sweet green comes out on top with more of a organic feeling with the greens and woody chairs and counters.
Chop't just goes with the green and white! metal tables and chairs.  Chop't is more focused on the food then the decor of the restaurant, and I'm fine with that!

CHOP'T
You come in order your food, they chop it up , large, medium or all the way chop't up!  I love it you get two small pieces of pita bread!

SWEETGREEN
SweetGreen I feel like it's a factory of long lines and people pointing and spitting over the counter into my organic food!!  not so much organic anymore huh!!  GERMS  finally get your food and you get a large piece of peasant bread it seems and then you pay 8$ for a SweetGreen little ass juice box that was pressed right in the store from organic fruits and veggies!!  give me a break!  If it doesn't have a USDA Organic sticker on it, it's not ORGANIC u numb nuts!

While SweetGreen is a local brand and expanding so much, Chop't has a limited number of stores and they are based out of NYC

So My pick out of the Salad war is going to be Chop't  The prices and size of the bowl of food is awesome and you can't get much better then that.  I could care less about the decor or the space!

Art Exhibit: EXPANSIONS

Transformer presents Expansions, featuring artists Eames Armstrong, Benjamin Edmiston, Matt Hollis, Victor Koroma, and Megan Mueller.

Recognizing these five artists’ diverse talent, Transformer invites them to expand on their small to medium sized 2-D works on paper in our FlatFile program, utilizing the Transformer space to further develop existing themes and directions within their work through larger scale mixed-media installations, paintings, video animation, and sculptural works. In tandem with this exhibition, Transformer launches on-line sales of our FlatFile via our website, transformerdc.org, with works by each of the Expansions artists.

OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, March 15, 6–8pm

The exhibition runs from March 16, 2013 to April 20, 2013; Transformer is open for gallery hours Wednesday - Saturday, 12pm - 6pm.

ABOUT THE EXPANSIONS ARTISTS:

Eames Armstrong is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, and founder of Aether Art Projects. She received her BFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in 2010, where she studied studio art with emphasis on painting, writing, and performance. Armstrong’s practice considers memory and fantasy, with a particular interest in reprocessing materials of domestic spaces, representing the visualization of memory and the struggle to preserve it.

Benjamin Edmiston is a Brooklyn-based artist working primarily in painting and mixed media collage. Having received his BFA in painting from the Tyler School of Art, and his MFA in painting from Brooklyn College, Edmiston’s work brings both figural simplicity as well as formal variety. The artist states, “Rich pattern, faded color, and meticulously drawn collaged fragments converge to convey common social activity and objects. Slanted with a dark subtext, my work marries these elements creating decisively obsessive works as much about material as they are about customary human experience. Successful works resonate when their decisive clumsiness is counterbalanced with an idiosyncratic formal logic.”

Matt Hollis creates abstract-organic sculpture, photography, & installations evoking a heightened reality where abstract-organic shapes and saturated color stimulate senses. He believes that with enhanced awareness, the everyday becomes otherworldly. Hollis is a DC based artist with an active practice at the 52 ‘O’ Street Studios.

Victor Koroma is an experimental photographer and filmmaker with an affinity for every day objects, books, skateboarding, and music. Koroma states, “I enjoy anything clever, whimsical, witty, and fun, plus ideas that are thought provoking and conceptual in nature. My intention is to transform objects beyond their banality into objects of desire that encourage you to think of them in new ways.“

Megan Mueller received a BA in Political Science from George Washington University and a BFA in Sculpture and Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her work has been selected for exhibition at various venues including: Flashpoint Gallery, TSV Berlin, Coup d’espaces at the Washington Project for the Arts, Porch Projects, the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts, and the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art. The artist states, “I am interested in formally investigating the intersection of sculpture and painting. In the past, this has taken shape in colorful flat sculptures or three-dimensional painting structures. My work is informed by my own understanding of geography and my reliance upon landscape. Often, I reuse materials from older work into newer work. I have found this to be an effective strategy for sustainable art making.”

One of the world's foremost dance companies, New York City Ballet performs two signature mixed repertory programs with the New York City Ballet Orchestra.

Its all-Balanchine, all-Tchaikovsky program features works performed during the company's recent Tchaikovsky Celebration at Lincoln Center: Swan Lake, Allegro Brillante, and Tschaikovsky Suite No. 3.

The second program features Balanchine's glorious Vienna Waltzes, Christopher Wheeldon's salute to Richard Rodgers's Carousel, and Jerome Robbins's Glass Pieces, set to the music of minimalist composer Philip Glass.

PUMP ME UP

International Dining in DC: Lavagna

539 8th St.  SE
Washington DC

Friday night, reservations made for six people at a local eatery in Eastern Market/Barracks Row right off of Penn Ave.  We were all starving and ready for some food, the restaurant was packed but we had our table in the back ready for us.  The lay out was simple nothing fancy simple bar and large up stairs, private dining area in the rear of the dining room, great for party's because it looks out onto the rest of the dining area.

The staff was a little late at getting our drinks and an appetizer.  which took for ever to get to the table.. or was it because we were SOOO hungry! Anyways starting off with Charcuterie with house cured meats and cheeses, very delicious, we all loved the mustard!!  actually asked for MORE!

The food came and went to fast!  we each all took bites of every ones plates and we were astonished to find out that this chef knows how to cook, how can this little restaurant go unnoticed and I've never heard of it!  Some of the best Italian food I have ever had.

I give Lavagna 4 out of 5 stars ****

Thank you everyone for the text and phone calls

the top lock we cut off, I locked my lock on it after I i knew it was mine so they wouldn't take off.
