blue7, known by the relatively benign name of Matthew Smith in the real world, is an up and coming DJ from Northern Virginia. In the underground dance scene, you'll hear heart pounding electro house with hints of disco, indie rock and hip-hop.
Recent associations with GrindHouse, DC Raves Radio and GLAS Mix Project have provided much needed exposure to allow blue7 to treat your ears with the music we love.

Whether you're catching a Progressive, Liquid DNB, Breaks or Tech House set...one thing remains the same, you will be taken on an aural journey that will leave you wanting more. For Ramiro, it began long ago with early 90's 'Techno'. A passion sprang forth and he dedicated himself completely to this newfound love. In '99 Ramiro took to the decks to further hone his passion for EDM. Soon after, he was an integral factor in the startup of 'Give' a local EDM crew dedicated to providing quality music for free to the masses. Taking the lead of Transit in 2006 - Transit is now the longest running EDM weekly in the DMV. Ramiro's visibility in the scene and skills behind the decks have landed him in some legendary venues playing alongside legendary artists. He has since become a member of District Burners and has fully embraced the 'burner' lifestyle. More recently his exploits have landed him a spot on One Love Massives roster and is now a part of Set Artists based in Cali. His experience coupled with his innate ability to know what the people want will leave dancers and dancefloors glistening with sweat.

William eL Basehead, aka Will Base, aka Billy Basehead...a long-standing member of the DC Raves Radio family. Will has been enthralled with electronic music for the last two decades and stepped up to the decks for the first time in 1998 at James Madison University, hosting a weekly show on WXJM that consisted of deep house, techno and breaks, and bringing in local talent for guest dj spots. Upon moving to Northern VA in 2004, he sought out underground djs and artists, then found the Mixed Signals crew. Will aided in throwing some very memorable techno parties that included the likes of Detroit Techno Militia, Ryan Crosson and Dylan Drazen, and Jeff Samuels, just to name a few. Will Base spent this time doing opening sets and honing his skills behind the decks. It was at this time he met the early owners and operators of what would become DC Raves Radio, at the time broadcasted on StressFactor. Now Will is an integral part of DCRR, keeping you refilled every week with fresh podcasts from our Sunday Funday show. Will is involved in promoting and playing events that we hope are held in the highest regard and in keeping with excellent party etiquette. This party will be no exception; Will is gong to be rocking the 1200s with a special vinyl throwback set for Erin Carroll's birthday!! Come celebrate with us and as always get your mutherfunkin groove on=)

  • While DC artists Christian Platt and Brian Petro each work in a variety of media, they share an affinity for the medium of ink on paper. Petro’s large, expressive brush strokes serve as exclamation points to Platt’s meticulously developed relief prints. Platt’s method of drilling through his plate to create the light space he will later print is, in effect, drilling the “light” into his work. Petro’s brush strokes and shapes reflect both an influence and meaning as he lays down the emotional “paths” of paint.

“Responsible for some of the most exciting underground house music to come out of North America in recent years.” – DJ Magazine

✭ JAY TRIPWIRE:

“A full pelt wavering between tribal moments & more modest slabs of Detroit-inspired soul. The crowd respond at every turn.” – Steve McLay, DJ MAG

Always sitting slightly off-centre, Jay Tripwire is an artist that walks the line as industry staple and ever changing innovator, releasing one standout release after another. His signature fusion of deep Detroit textures and intricate rhythms has led a career spanning two decades, with over 200 vinyl releases, 2 commercial mixed cd compilations, and four full length albums. He remains one of the most prolific artists around, with an average of 15 releases per year.

He is an always an in demand remixer he averages 10-15 remixes per year.

In 2010 Jay Was honoured by being named by Future Music alongside Frankie Knuckles, Larry Heard, Charles Webster, Atjazz, and Tom Middleton as being one of the most influentual Innovators in house music for “The thoughtful minimal stylings of Jay Tripwire.”

Most recently he’s completed a compilation mix for Steve Bug’s respected label Pokerflat – ‘Shaping Elements Vol.8’ which features a blend of deep house ranging from Detroit inspired textures to modern European house and tech house fusions, blurring genrefication. This follows releases on the label under his 8Channels name – a project that melds basic channel, cosmic soul and dub into a new hybrid soundscape of techno, deep house and dub.

The moniker also appears on other highly regarded labels such as Ransom Note, Conya, NRK, Cinematic and Hallucination.

Whilst the term ‘legendary’ is often bandied about with little thought, in Jay’s case we could say just that – his personal arsenal of re-edits and comfort in arranging extended DJ sets lasting eight hours or more certainly demonstrates a talent that deviates from standard fare.
Jay also still supports, buys and plays vinyl, and actively seeks out records to play at gigs, when Tripwire is on the decks he plays a vinyl and CD set. Jay has made appearances in over 200 cities worldwide, and some of his most memorable gigs have been a decade of bookings at Fabric London- a venue that has changed his approach to Djing, and production sound.

Jay’s work has been featured on numerous compilations, notably from Cocoon, Fabric, Renaissance, Journeys by DJ, Ultra & Bedrock, and is supported by a diverse spectrum of dance culture from house luminaries such as, Doc Martin and Kerri Chandler to techno legends Steve Bug and Laurent Garnier and John Digweed With anticipated releases and remixes imminent, the Tripwire production wheel is still very much in motion, and on its way to a turntable near you.

✭ EVAN BAGGS:

This born and bred New Yorker has gained a reputation through his sheer passion, clever track selections and precise mixing. Through word of mouth – and years before his first releases - he has been invited to DJ for crowds all over the world from Brazil to China and many places in between. His DJ sets are as exciting and diverse as his home town and have gained him compliments from many international DJ’s and producers, who recognize him as a legitimate up-and-coming talent.

McLellan builds up hundreds of layers of oil and enamel on panel over the course of months and even years -- then sands it all down to a "plate-glass smooth" surface. Electric colors, whimsical forms and exposed textures are all traces of an unbridled practice, but the fusion of layers (and time) presents an image that's unexpectedly stoic.
