The National Archives is putting a 715 year old copy of the Magna Carta back on display after is was removed for repairs last year. The famous English declaration of human rights underwent a conservation effort to remove old patches and repair weak spots but will be back for public view on Feb 17 at the Archives in downtown Washington. Archivists unveiled the document Thursday in its new, improved encasement, Only four originals of the 1297 Magna Carta remain. The one at the Archives is the only one in the United States. It belongs to local businessman and philanthropist David Rubinstein, who donated 13.5 million for the conservation effort and a new interactive exhibit highlighting the elements that influenced the United States founding charters.
