Please join us for the opening reception of Pia Mater featuring Jenny Sawle, Emily Francisco and Ashleigh Werner on April 6, 7 - 11pm.
The pia mater is the innermost layer of membrane surrounding the brain, the final delicate veil guarding the center of the nervous system. For their exhibition of the same name, the artists will dissect the concept of vulnerability through drawing, video, sculpture and performance.
The artists use non-traditional media to carry out their work. Jenny is showing drawings on ...pieces of fabric that are stitched together to create sculptural dresses and shirts. Ashleigh is covering a couch with drawings made using Sharpie markers (see progress images below). Emily is sculpting with outmoded technology such as a 90’s television set and objects that ask for interaction like furniture and musical instruments.
