Union Station used to be just a place to catch your next train, well with the redevelopment of Union station and it's deteriorating state it was in back in the 60's and 70's they wanted to get people back to the station and shop, so they made it like a mall inside, a very beautiful mall at that. they are adding more store as I speak more name brand stores are coming. maybe even an apple store!!!

First off Gallery Place/Chinatown/Metro Center area has become sort of a entertainment zone with the opening of the Verizon center back in the late 90's stores and new condos have popped up all over the place where once old abandoned vacant lots stood. now you see teenagers and family's walking around, looking for a place to eat and friend's meeting up at the movie theater or for drinks downtown. alot has changed.

Friendship Heights is another shopping district, nestled in the upper upper North west corner of the city, you can take the red line there. stores located there are HIGH END!! no joke. This area has some of the highest average income levels in the US.

Georgetown, once the ghetto and marshy industrial land of DC, now is a thriving area for college students and the well to do, people come to be seen and see. just strolling in Georgetown on the old stone sidewalks takes you back to the olden day's when boats used to float down the canals and horse drawn buggies were still around. There are lot's of old homes, you can get lost wandering the streets here, and you can find some good shops as well.

Columbia Heights was once a great shopping district, but after the riots in the 60's it lost it's luster and was dotted with vacant lots burnt out homes and just really down and out place you didn't want to come to. again with the opening of the metro here in the late 90's the extension of the green line, brought people back up here and in the early 2000's condos and the DC USA shopping mall was built for a much needed area, this area is back to is glory, busy streets all the time, and a nice civic plaza to people watch.
