The Yards opening!

The Yards Park is a 5.5 acre park in Navy Yard, featurintg a quarter mile–long boardwalk along the water. The Yards Park was built through a partnership between the General Services Administration, the District of Columbia, Forest City Washington and the Capitol Riverfront Business Improvement District.

To celebrate the opening of the park, Art Whino is hosting an opening reception for its "Beautiful Minds" art exhibit, which features more than 60 area artists, on September 10 and 11.

On Friday, the park's Lumber Shed Pavilion will feature a beer garden by Capitol City Brewing and cocktails by Mie n Yu Restuarant from 3:30 to 11 p.m. Special Occasion and Project Natale will perform jazz on the Boardwalk Stage early in the evening -- while Federico Aubelo, Second Sky and Ursula 1000 will stage live performances after 8 p.m.

The Yards Park is within viewing distance of the Friday night Nationals fireworks show.

On Saturday, September 11, the park's Lumber Shed Pavilion will feature a beer garden by Capitol City Brewing,cocktails by Mie n Yu Restuarant and crafts all day. Artists performing reggae to rock to hula hooping will take the boardwalk stage. And Vida will host yoga and pilate classes on the overlook and bridge.

The Yards Park, which is part of the larger Yards development, features open grassy park area as well as biking trails and riverside shops.
