Gay Rights Icon Kameny Dies

Two summer's ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Frank Kameny at a wedding of two friends.  My first gay wedding.  It was a pleasure to meet such a grand person who has done so much for the Gay rights in this country.

Frank Kamey, 86, Who was fired from his job as a government astronomer in 1957 for being a homosexual and became a pioneer in the gay rights movement, has died, after a heart attack.

in 1965, Kameny was the first to stage a gay rights protest with about 10 others in front of the White House, and later at the Pentagon and elsewhere.  Some signs from those protest are now housed in the Smithsonian.
