Hipster: MODA for MEN

Hipsters: What's your take on a male hipster?  This is my take, well from what I see around here in DC.

 I've seen some fucked up haircuts, actually the girl across from my apartment half her head is shaved and other side is long.  I so did that back in 1990.

 This guy is really not a hipster, it's a hot trannymess trying to be a hipster.  DON'T DO IT

 Those psychedelic colored shirts are so 1988 Deadhead feeling.  the bushy hair a nest, trim that.

Don't you want me baby!  1982 is calling, they want their sunglasses back at night and their flock of seagull hair back.

 Totally not a hipster!  trying a little to hard.

 Ok these are maybe freshman in college or redneck hipsters.

Fashion road kill, my the designer fashions they don't know if they are cool or ultra cool because they re wearing designer hipster wear, (aka) all their rent for this month.

The work of Selin Oguz Balci is produced through the stimulation of organisms whose byproducts result in colorful biological close ups reminiscent of scientific texts. The work of Natalie Cheung utilizes the chemical to capture the natural reactions to light and air, leaving behind crystalized formations that evoke forgotten landscapes. Although their methods and materials are very opposing there is a familiarity ever present in the patterns they’ve created.

Join us Friday, September 9, 6-8pm for the opening reception of banished? productions' "Tactile Dinner Car" at Flashpoint Gallery.

banished? productions’ "Tactile Dinner Car" will offer gallery visitors an experience that riffs on F.T. Marinetti’s Futurist Cookbook. The artists will activate a hand-built car, which will serve as the visual centerpiece to the exhibition.

Julia Latein-Kimmig's "Mix No Match" uses a wild variety of brushes, pieces of torn, discarded drawings, neglected studies and street finds creating a unique exhibition that takes the viewer artist on an exciting journey.

"Wild Card" will be a hands-on workshop conducted by the artist where participants will create a work of art of their very own, some of it from unusual materials "getting a second chance on life." A love for life’s colors, an appreciation for discovering objects with character, and respect for composition and dynamic tension find their way into Julia Latein-Kimmig’s new series " Mix No Match." Inspired by a three-year stay in Istanbul/Turkey, the artist starts her paintings with a wide mix of colors and materials, supported by a wild variety of brushes, old toothbrushes, and weathered vegetable or wallpaper brushes--every brush is welcome. Torn pieces of discarded drawings or neglected studies, street finds, and newspaper rip-outs enjoy getting a second chance on life. Taking the lead, charcoal, graphite and oil bars find their way onto the canvas, stirring up an unruly mix of form and color, taking the artist on a unique journey, which thrives on a dynamic jumble of color and form. The result opens a window in how the artist interprets her mix of what is obvious to the eye as well as to what is easily passed by and overlooked.
